Guitar is often the instrument students teach themselves — badly. At Musical Moments, guitar is taught with the same rigor as piano and strings: real technique, real reading, real musicianship. The difference shows within months.

Our guitar program is led by Jeremy Collins, a classical and fingerstyle guitarist who was a finalist and prizewinner at the 2011 Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition — the most prestigious classical guitar competition in North America. He has been a featured performer on NPR's "From the Top," serves on the faculty of Xavier University, and maintains an active solo performance career alongside his teaching. Do I need my own guitar?

Yes — guitar students will need their own instrument. We're happy to make recommendations for rentals or purchases at any budget, including properly sized instruments for younger students.

What styles do you teach?

Our program centers on classical and fingerstyle guitar — the foundation from which every other style becomes accessible. Students build technique and reading skills that transfer to any genre they love.

What age can students start guitar?

Most guitar students start around age 7–8, depending on hand size and focus. During the free trial lesson we'll assess readiness and recommend the right starting point — including instrument sizing.

Are adult guitar students welcome?

Absolutely. Many of our guitar students are teens and adults. Whether you're a complete beginner or a self-taught player ready for real technique, lessons are tailored to your goals.
